Unfortunately we have out-grown it as a family, and I can't justify keeping it as a "garage decoration". The new hardware used was gold to match the paint and decal scheme, or stainless steel. It is not overloaded with chrome add on's that detract from it's original, bold style. This Jeep was re-built to look original with some great upgrades. Re-powder coated & pinstriped factory rims,Ĭustom built/powder coated bumpers and trail rack,Īuxiliary lights (front and rear, front have original "Jeep" plastic covers), New hood latches/fender flares/marker lights, Low profile floor mounted front speakers, Tuffy lock box/center console securing a Pioneer stereo (CD/MP3), (original stitch pattern and buttons retained, but original material was unavailable), New windshield/windshield seal/wiper arms/side mirrors/rear view mirror, (50 state legal with new EPA sticker - no more hard starts or flooding), Removed/replaced Tremac 3-speed with rebuilt T-18 4-speed, Removed/replaced 2-piece AMC tapered rear end with much stronger re-built - centered/narrow track Dana 44,ĭana 35 Front end re-geared plus new bearings & new axle u-joints,Ĭonfer Shackles, Re-built/balanced drive shafts (spare rear drive shaft), These 258 I-6 engines are bullet proof.įollowing is a list of upgrades/modifications/restored items: The engine was left alone because while replacing the gaskets you could still see stamp marks in the crank bearings, which indicated minimal wear. Yes, I've only put about 15,000 miles on it in 14 years, and it has always been garage kept and/or covered with me. At the time of the purchase it had 133,534 miles on the odometer. I purchased this Jeep in 2002 and I am the third owner that I know of. After sales in 1977 were so good AMC kept it around for five more years, but this is one of the first. The Golden Eagle was only offered from 1, and in 1977 it was meant to be a Limited Edition model (as you can see on the decals in the "before" photos when I brought it home). 95 percent of this Jeep has 15,000 miles or less on it. The condition is like new, since this Jeep was carefully rebuilt. This true American classic is a real Golden Eagle, not a Jeep someone slapped a sticker on.
